Technology Classes offered at HMS

7th GRADE

DESIGN AND MODELING (1 semester)
Students discover the design process and develop an understanding of the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives.  Students will use a CAD (Computer Aided Design) program to create drawings and models of 2D and 3D objects on their computer. They are then challenged and empowered to use and apply what they’ve learned throughout the unit to design and 3d print various projects.

COMPUTER SCIENCE (1 semester)
This unit will allow students to discover computer science concepts and skills by creating personally relevant, tangible, and shareable projects. Throughout the unit, students will learn about programming for the physical world by blending hardware design and software development.

8th GRADE

INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING DESIGN (2 semesters)
Students develop their understanding of the engineering design process.  Students will apply math, science, and engineering standards to hands-on projects like designing a new toy or improving an existing product.  Students have an opportunity to receive high school credits with successful completion of this class.

AUTOMATION AND ROBOTICS (1 semester)
Automation and Robotics is a fun, hands on class designed to let students solve problems through the eyes of an engineer.  They will effectively use the engineering design process to design, model, and test their ideas.  Students use VEX components and RobotC programming software to design, model, and test mechanical projects that they learn to automate.

AGRICULTURE AND NATURAL RESOURCES (2 semesters)
Students will develop an understanding of animal science, food science. plant and soil science, natural resources , and renewable energy.  Students have an opportunity to receive high school credits with successful completion of this class.
